Time for a new high budget television series with a puzzling theme, an extensive cast and a non-linear narrative. NBC’s “The Event” promises great events but bodes an awful turnout as it reminds of shortcoming predecessors such as “The 4400″, “Heroes” and “Flashforwards” in style and storytelling! Unfortunately there has yet not been a single black swan, the single case to falsify my theory about the ill fate of such productions.
They often start explosively on elaborate and established premisses, however lose direction and ambition as they go along without a clear destination. Either ending prematurely or anticlimactic, not even LOST managed to keep its head out of its rear-end by the very end! Nevertheless, I’m a pathological sucker for the complex concepts and easily fall for the allure of an attractive facade. Realistically seen there is very little hope that this show manages to prove me wrong, but I can’t help but to keep my fingers crossed that this will be that black swan!
